  3. Double click the top part of the existing support or the sphere that connects the top part and the middle part of that support. A support (preview) will branch from that sphere to your mouse pointer. If you click on your model, this branching support will be added from the sphere to that point.

You can do this multiple times to build a tree-like structure. If you're happy with it, press the ESC key on your keyboard or double click at an empty area to exit branching support editing.

The advantages of connection supports

What makes the connection support structure better than the normal one? What if we use several normal supports rather than one branching support, as it looks like they both work?

First, connection supports work better when it comes to saving your material. If you can guarantee that the connection support structure you've added is reliable, then one branching support saves more printing material than multiple normal structures.

Also, to ensure the successful prints of some small models, it is required to use strong support structures. If we add dense normal supports to a small model surface area, then it's likely to experience issues like support overlapping or sticking to each other. But if we use a branching support, and its trunk is strong enough, then we can use the branches to cover the area, and at the same time we lower the risk of support overlapping.

These are how to use the connection support structure on CHITUBOX and why you need it sometimes. If you have any questions about this information, drop us an email at support@chitubox.com.
